Frequently Asked Questions
1:1 & Small Group Personal Training
How do I book a consultation?
First you'll need to complete a consultation form. Once you've done this I will contact you to arrange an appointment for a free consultation.
Can I start personal training without having a consultation first?
It is not recommended to start any personal training programme without having a consultation with the trainer first. The consultation is the first opportunity both you and I get to speak to each other about what your goals are and how I can help you achieve them. Without a prior consultation it is difficult to plan an effective personal training session or programme tailored to your needs.
Do I have to pay for a consultation?
In short, no. As part of your personal training journey you will receive a free consulation prior to your first session.
How is the consultation conducted?
You can choose either a telephone, video chat or a face to face consultation.
How do I book a personal training session?
Once you have had your free consultation and you are happy to proceed with a personal training programme, you'll need to purchase a personal training membership.
The next step is to book your session time from the availble slots on the timetable.
What can I expect at my first personal training session?
There is no set rule for what your first session will look like, but it's likely to include:
- A run through of your training programme
- Asking you to perform certain exercises so that I can check your form and understand your baseline level of fitness
- Taking you through the first workout of your new programme
- You may also have your measurements and photo taken
You will also get a chance to ask any questions you might have.
How many people will there be in a small group personal training session?
Small group personal training sessions will have a maximum of 4 people in them.
How long is a personal training session?
Personal training sessions usually last around 60 minutes.
How often should I have personal training?
How long and how often you need to work with a personal trainer varies depending on your goals, your current fitness level, how knowledgeable you are, your budget and more.
I recommend a minimum of 2 sessions per week. Not only will this help to keep your accountability levels up, it will also help you to achieve your goals faster.
How do I get the most out of personal training?
Being open with me will help you to get the most out of your sessions. Being honest about your goals, your fitness, and what effort you're willing to put in, will help me to design a programme that best fits your lifestyle.
Do you have any special offers or discounts?
I will sometimes have special offers or discount codes for services I offer. These will be advertised in the 'Offers' tab on the website menu.
1:1 and Small Group Personal Training customers receive a special discount code that they can use when booking fitness classes to permanently reduce the cost to £5 per class without having to purchase a class bundle.
Fitness Classes
Do I need to be fit to take part in a class?
No you don't. For many people, taking part in a class will be their first experience of an organised fitness session so my fitness classes are suitable for all ability levels. So whether you're taking your first steps in to exercises, or you're an experienced pro, my classes will work for you.
I've never taken part in a fitness class before, what can I expect?
When you arrive for your fitness class I will be there waiting to greet you. If it's your first time I'll explain to you what we're going to do in the class and show you where any equipment is that you might need. If you need any help setting up, I'll help you with that too.
If I have a medical condition or an injury, can I take part in a fitness class?
It's always best to let me know before that class starts if you have a medical condition or injury so that I can make any adaptations to the exercises for you.
If you're worried that you shouldn't be taking part at all, the best thing to do is contact me before booking on so that I can advise you on the best thing for you.
Do I have to be a gym member to take part in fitness classes?
This depends on which classes you want to take part in. Fitness classes at Copmanthorpe Sports & Recreation Centre do not require a membership to take part. Fitness classes at PureGym York will require a gym membership to join them.
How long do fitness classes last?
That depends on the type of class you choose. Typically classes will last between 45-60 minutes.
How much does a fitness class cost?
An indivial class costs £6.50.
You can reduce the cost per class by purchasing a class bundle:
A 5 class bundle is £30 which reduces the per class cost to £6
A 10 Class bundle is £50 which reduces the per class cost to £5
